Around 2,900 Ford Lightning pickups recalled over software-linked issue

	
The recall covers 220 units of the electric pickup trucks in Canada and 2,666 units in the US.
	
Ford has refused to accept any more orders and declared the EV sold out for 2022. 


Ford Motor Company has reportedly recalled the first batch of nearly 2,900 units of all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup trucks over a software-related error that could fail to generate an adequate warning of low tire pressure.

The automaker explained that the pickup truck’s tire pressure indicator light might not illuminate when required and thus the system will be unable to generate an alert when the tire pressure is too low.

To that effect, this might potentially impair the vehicle's handling, causing the driver to lose control of the car which may further result in potential accidents. However, there have been no reports of injuries or accidents connected to the recall issue.

Ford claimed that the reason behind this failure is the tire cold inflation pressure value, which was recommended to be set at 42 psi and was wrongly entered as 35 psi. It is worth noting that the recall covers 220 units of the electric pickup trucks in Canada and 2,666 units in the U.S.

For the time being, dealers will upgrade the body control module function for undelivered vehicles, as well as for clients who need a quick 20-minute fix. Ford added that an over-the-air programming update for all current owners will be provided in 30 days.

The automotive behemoth, on receiving more than 2,000,000 reservations for Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck has refused to accept any more orders and declared the EV sold out for 2022.  Interestingly, the platinum EV is claimed to have a range of 482 km, while the electric pickup truck variant has an extended range of approximately 514 km.
