Marriott, Charge Zone partner to install EV charging stations in India

By Akshay Kedari

EV charging network Charge Zone has reportedly partnered with Marriott International Inc. to install electric vehicle charging stations across the hotel chain’s Indian properties.

Under the partnership, the company will also deploy a charging station with a capacity of around DC 60kW/120kW in the Westin Mumbai Powai Lake property and intends to deploy more than 100 EV stations at Marriott hotels in India by the end of the year. These charging stations will be designed to charge e-4w which will be opened to the public apart from Marriott’s EV fleet.

Charge Zone has claimed that its EV charging stations take around 60 minutes for charging 80% battery and at least 120 minutes for a full charge depending upon the battery size. Moreover, these chargers have an additional facility for charging Type-2 AC chargers whenever required.

Bhaskar Gurunath, the Area Director of Engineering at Marriott South Asia cited that range anxiety is the largest bottleneck for customers to shift from fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles. By providing EV charging stations at their properties, the hotel chain aims to reduce any range concerns among EV users.

For those unaware, Charge Zone is known to have created B2B and B2C networks for both retail and fleet customers. It has also set up nearly 1,450 charging points with the capability of serving more than 5,000 EVs every day.

The company has also installed a network of 20 app-driven, unmanned EV charging stations along the Gujarat-Maharashtra National Highway in an area covering 1000 km, cited sources with relevant information.

In similar developments, TVS Motor Company and Jio-bp have partnered up to create an EV charging station for electric two and three-wheelers in India. TVS electric vehicles’ customers will get an extensive charging network of Jio-bp which will also remain accessible to other vehicles.
