Nokia joins forces with Broadcom to expand its Reefshark portfolio

Nokia Corp., a Finnish multinational telecommunications giant, has reportedly entered into a partnership with an American semiconductor manufacturing company, Broadcom to develop next-gen semiconductor technologies, namely SoC (system-on-chip) processors. Apparently, the move will help Nokia expand its portfolio of “5G Powered by Reefshark”.

According to reliable sources, the partnership will not only enhance the energy footprint and performance of 5G networks, but will also help in understanding the benefits as well as the capabilities of 5G technology. The new SoC processors will use Broadcom’s expertise in ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) technologies and Nokia’s wireless technology.

Industry experts claim that the recent collaboration will help Nokia expand its silicon capabilities as well as increase the penetration of ReefShark technology in its AirScale radio access profile. The operators will apparently benefit from a reduction in power consumption and size by implementing ReefShark-based products. Sources also cite that will help in improving the capacity and the performance at lower costs.

President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, Tommi Uitto reportedly stated that the new venture underlines the company’s commitment towards development of its chipset portfolio “5G Powered by Reekshark”. He further stated that the company is thrilled to join forces with Broadcom’s top-notch ASIC capabilities and silicon technology, which will enable Nokia to upscale performance and boost customer service.

Meanwhile, SVP & GM of ASIC Products Division at Broadcom, Frank Ostojic stated that the company is delighted to partner with Nokia for building and deploying an advanced integrated custom silicon solution for 5G network. He further noted that Broadcom and Nokia’s partnership will not only accelerate silicon innovations but also allow end users as well as operators to understand the advantages of 5G solutions.
