U.S., EU to discuss AI road map at the trade and technology council

The new roadmap will ensure that AI deployment is in line with free-market principles and shared democratic values

The United States and the European Union are reportedly planning to roll out a new AI (artificial intelligence) road map which prioritizes risk management and security at the next meeting of their joint trade and technology council, stated a senior U.S. official recently.

During the event hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Marisa Lago, Commerce Undersecretary for International Trade, while speaking on the latest development revealed that the document will be released during the upcoming ministerial meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council.

Apparently, it is scheduled to be held on December 5.

Marisa highlighted that this is a mutual priority which is slated to grow in scope as new AI applications come online and as more authoritarian systems are working to follow a different approach considering security and risk management issues.

Marisa also went on to say that the U.S. and EU officials believe that the document will ensure that the newly deployed technologies comply with shared democratic values and free-market principles.

It will also help to make certain that small- and medium-sized U.S. and EU businesses are included in the new digital markets, added Marisa.

According to credible sources, Gina Raimondo, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, recently attended a meeting with EU Commission Executive Vice President, Margrethe Vestager virtually to discuss TTC work.

Apparently, several important issues like semiconductors, artificial intelligence and information communication technology services were discussed in the meeting, as per the Commerce Department.

For the record, China was singled out as the most significant threat to the global order in the U.S. President Joe Biden's national security strategy, which also emphasized the importance of close cooperation with allies to slow down China's rise.
