Bosch expands security with dashcams designed for rideshare drivers

Bosch, the German technology company, has reportedly expanded its security footprint in the ridesharing market with the launch of its latest security dashcams.

At CES 2023, Las Vegas, the German tech firm unveiled a new integrated smart camera on Tuesday evening, along with a 24-hour helpline for drivers using the ride-hailing apps. Bosch also stated that it is collaborating with Gridwise, a rideshare and delivery application, to carry out user research and make sure that the product is a good fit for the market.

The device, which was designed primarily for ride-hailing drivers, has an exterior and interior camera as well as a front-facing lighting component to alert drivers and passengers that the service is available.

Additionally, this security dashcam has a wireless SOS button that the driver can press in their car to initiate an emergency call to a Bosch call center.

The emergency call operators are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can use a camera feed from the RideCare companion device to evaluate whether emergency services should be alerted.

Besides, the firm claimed that every ride will be recorded. However, the footage, which contains encrypted information like a timestamp and location, is only sent to the cloud when an incident is signaled by the SOS button or the driver. The company claims that data is handled in accordance with applicable data privacy laws. The device has several tamper-resistance characteristics and will transmit an alert if its field of view is obstructed or compromised.

According to a company representative, the device will be available in the market from the early months of 2023. It will be promoted to fleets and drivers alike. Price information for the hardware piece and related support service was not provided by Bosch. The device will have an up-front payment and the support service would be provided on a subscription basis.
